Layout

Layout

There are different applications, software and methods for having good grid and layout, but you can always design your own kind of creative layout and break the rules. For instance; In design and even sometimes illustrator by Adobe has been known as the 2 of the best software to use for layout.

In my opinion, in order to be a good designer you have to consider every aspect of the design and one of them for sure is layout. Layout does not only means the structure of writing, It can also be used in painting, photography, filming and etc. so I think every students which are related to art should at least be aware of the basic structure of it. Once you start to read and knowledge more about layout, it is then when you start realizing how much you will seen it around you in movies, advertising and etc. and how much you can use it in order to get a better result for your design.
There are lots of websites, books, online tutorials, and even some extra classes to get knowledge about this subject from, and most common topic in all of them are usually rules of third, which I find it really useful in photography and it saves me a lot of time in cropping the pictures, also  it give my audience a better view, for instance when it is a portrait picture. It shows me how easy I can have beautiful preview of the person in the picture and also the view behind hi,/her.
However, for graphic designer, I believe it is more important to know the layout rules in typography design.
The reason is; as a designer you should always consider your clients and their needs first and if someday someone would ask you to design a magazine or even a book for them, you should be able and comfortable to know how the design structure works in a magazine. Where the text should go, how the pictures will be include and organized, where the footer should be in and etc.
Layout can have so many different parts, such as; margin, columns, grids, footer, page number and... which personally I have not even heard the names since 1 year ago when I got into the university.
So in order to be professional designer it is important to know that you should try your best to gain experience in any type of design to make more knowledge and be built up your confidence. That would be the main key to find the perfect job.

Calligraphy

Calligraphy

There are always some rules in order to design a good piece of artworks which you can not break them, and in typography there are usually a few more than the other type of design. However, that does not mean that you can not be creative with it.

Today I have experienced to work with a new type of typography which is called 'Calligraphy' and it had its own methods and equipment. As I was study art in high school back in my country (Iran) we were supposed to acknowledge more in this subject and get experienced, It was different to the way they teach in hear though. We were using shaped peace of wood, dipped in black ink and to write on some shinny tick paper which you would have the ability to rub off you mistakes (if you use ink to write) with a knife.

The good thing about these wooden pens is that they are cheap and you can shape and sharp them the way it is easier for you to use, yourself, and if it breaks you can easily replace it. In my opinion it is also easier to apply ink on it as it is made out of wood and it takes a part of the color in its top part.

The way I learned to to calligraphy was different with the experienced I have gain in here though, as we were being thought to write 'Nastaligh' there.
Nastaligh is an old Persian type face which is also famous in Arab countries as they have the same alphabets. I found it more easier for me to write as it has more curves in it compare to the English version. However, obviously each one has their own use.

English calligraphy reminds me of old Disney stories and cartoons which they start with a landscape of Calligraphic story book.
